She Said Yes in Èze | A Sunset Proposal on the French Riviera¶
On June 1, 2025, I photographed a surprise proposal for H and A in Èze, France.
H contacted me several months in advance to plan the proposal and coordinate timing, location, and logistics. After reviewing several options, H chose Èze due to its walkable layout, elevated viewpoints, and variety of backdrops within a short distance. He proposed an area of the garden with beautiful views of the sea.
The total photography session lasted one hour and forty-five minutes and was structured around the operating hours of the Jardin Exotique d’Èze.
Proposal at Jardin Exotique d’Èze¶
The proposal took place at approximately 18:00 inside the Jardin Exotique d’Èze. During the summer season, the garden closes at 18:30. This allowed for roughly thirty minutes of photography inside the garden following the proposal.
Lighting conditions at this time of day were soft and even, with partial cloud cover and pre-sunset light. These conditions were consistent throughout the garden portion of the session and allowed for balanced exposure without harsh shadows.
Old Town Èze Photography Session¶
After the garden closed, the session continued for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes throughout Old Town Èze.
A short ten-minute break was taken at a scenic overlook near the back of Èze, close to Notre-Dame de l’Assomption d’Èze, the yellow cathedral located in the historic centre. During this time, H and A had champagne and relaxed before continuing with the session.
We took more photos with the beautiful sunset lighting in this spot.
More locations in Èze included narrow streets, stone stairways and alleyways.
Final Photos Near Château Eza¶
H and A had a dinner reservation at Château Eza scheduled for 20:00, so our final images were taken in the surrounding area and included wide shots with views over Èze, as well as close-up detail photos of the engagement ring inside the hotel.
