A Sunset Maternity Photo Session in the Lavender Fields, Provence¶
Maternity Session Planning¶
This session took place in mid-July in the Valensole region. A and S were visiting from India and had only one day in the area, so we scheduled a two-hour session from 18:00 to 20:00. The timing allowed us to capture the soft evening light as the sun approached the horizon. They did not want full sunset lighting because they needed to leave at 20:00 to return to Nice, so we focused on the soft lighting just before sunset.
The Sage Field¶
We began the session in a beautiful sage field close to Valensole. A and S prepared exceptionally well for this session, which made a big difference. They brought thoughtful props to celebrate their baby girl, which really elevates maternity sessions.

Our Favourite “Dip Field”¶
After the initial part of the session in the sage field, we moved to the lavender field we call the Dip Field. This is one of our favourite locations because of the dramatic, gently dipping terrain and the way the lavender stretches across the field. The Dip Field allowed us to create a completely different set of images. The combination of the field’s natural contours and the soft evening light made the photos feel dynamic and intimate. A and S looked incredible here, and we were able to capture both romantic couple shots and some fun, relaxed images that showcased their personalities.
We started shooting solo shots of A, highlighting her baby bump and the props she had brought. We focused on capturing her joy, anticipation, and the natural beauty of the setting. A wore a stunning dress that beautifully showcased her baby bump, and S coordinated his outfit to match her style.
Then we moved into couples portraits of A and S, capturing their connection and excitement together. We took a mix of posed and candid images, making sure to include the props in creative ways to tell the story of their celebration.
We loved the props they brought to the session, including tiny shoes and decorative elements that highlighted the excitement of expecting a child.
We left the fields feeling inspired by their excitement and grateful to have been part of this celebration.
