A Soft Pink Sunset Couple Session in Villefranche-sur-Mer¶
Golden Hour Without Direct Sun¶
In early September, from 19:05 to 20:05, we photographed O and T in Villefranche-sur-Mer during a peaceful sunset session.
Timing is very important in this town. Because Villefranche-sur-Mer sits within a curved bay surrounded by hills, direct sunlight disappears earlier than many expect. If you want strong, direct golden light in the streets, we recommend starting around 18:00. After that, the sun drops behind the mountain and the town shifts into softer evening tones.
O and T specifically wanted that gentle, pastel sky. They preferred the pink and muted glow that appears just after the sun dips away, rather than bright sunlight. As you can see in the photos, there is no direct sun, but the sky turns beautifully soft with hints of pink and lavender, creating a romantic atmosphere.
Beginning in the Old Town¶
We started near the train station area along the waterfront in Villefranche-sur-Mer. This spot offers a lovely perspective of the town rising behind the sea. It is not the most common starting point, which makes it feel a little more unique.
From there, we walked along the waterfront and into the Old Town.
One of our favourite areas is where the colourful façades stack up behind you, creating that classic Villefranche-sur-Mer backdrop of warm tones and narrow streets. We spent time here capturing relaxed portraits before making our way uphill to the panoramic viewpoint.
Panoramic Views on Boulevard Napoléon¶
The main highlight for O and T was the panoramic viewpoint along Boulevard Napoléon III. We went to the viewpoint closed to 20:00. By then, the evening had fully settled in. The lights in the town began to sparkle below, and the sky softened even more as sunset approached.
We spent the remainder of the session here, taking in the elevated views over the bay. The atmosphere was calm and romantic, with the pastel sky and twinkling town creating a beautiful backdrop.
It was an easy, relaxed couple session, perfectly suited to the soft tones of early September on the Riviera.
