A Sunset Lavender Picnic and Photo Session with Friends in Valensole, Provence

In mid-July, from 20:00 to 21:30, we hosted a sunset lavender picnic and short photo session for S, K, and T in the fields of Lavande Angelvin in Valensole, Provence.

S and K were from Haiti and travelling through the South of France together, so they invited their friend T to join the picnic, she lived in Paris at time. During this visit, they wanted to spend meaningful time together in the countryside and experience the iconic lavender fields at sunset.

Picnic First, Then a Short Photo Session

As with all of our lavender picnic experiences, the evening began with a beautifully prepared picnic set up directly in the fields. These sessions are designed to focus primarily on the picnic itself, enjoying the setting, the food, and the company. The photography portion comes at the end and lasts around 15 minutes, serving as a relaxed add-on rather than a full portrait session. Here is an example of the picnic experience:

From 20:30 onward, the light began to soften, and the fields glowed with warm golden tones. The atmosphere was calm and joyful, filled with laughter and conversation as they enjoyed their time together.

Golden Hour in the Lavender Fields

Once the sun started dipping lower, we transitioned into the short photo session. The lavender was illuminated beautifully, with the sky turning soft gold and pale pink behind them.

We captured natural moments of the three friends together, solo portraits as well as portraits of S and K as a couple. The mood was light, warm, and effortless — the kind of summer evening that feels timeless in Provence.

It was the perfect blend of friendship, romance, and the magic of sunset in the lavender fields.
