A Sunset Maternity Session in the Lavender Fields¶
Maternity Session Planning¶
This maternity session with V and P took place in early July, from 20:30 to 21:30. Early July is a beautiful time in the lavender fields, with the flowers in full bloom and the evenings offering soft, golden light.
Choosing the Right Lavender Field Location¶
For this session, we decided to remain in one single lavender field for the entire hour. Since V was pregnant, it was important to keep the experience relaxed and comfortable, without too much walking or moving between locations. Staying in one field allowed us to focus fully on capturing a variety of images while ensuring she felt at ease.
We chose a field that receives unobstructed sunset light. It is quieter than some of the more well-known fields, which can become quite busy in the evenings. This particular location offers open views, allowing the sunlight to stream directly across the lavender rows.
Sunset Lighting and Atmosphere¶
The conditions that evening were absolutely stunning. The sunset was clear, and the golden light poured in from behind the field, creating a warm glow around V and P. Just before sunset, the light turned a rich orange-gold, wrapping softly around them and highlighting the lavender in a magical way.
After the sun dipped below the horizon, the lighting shifted noticeably. The golden tones faded into cooler hues, and the lavender appeared deeper and more purple as dusk settled in. This transition allowed us to capture two distinct moods within the same session, first warm and glowing, then soft and romantic.
As dusk settled in, we finished the session with softer, more intimate images. The combination of full lavender bloom, golden sunset light, and the peaceful setting made this maternity session truly special.
Capturing Different Portraits¶
We captured a wide range of images throughout the hour. There were romantic couples portraits, tender candid moments, and beautifully posed maternity shots that highlighted V’s pregnancy. Some photographs focused closely on the two of them together, while others emphasised the lavender landscape surrounding them.
