A Bachelorette (EVJF) Picnic and Photo Session in the Lavender Fields of Provence

Bachelorette (EVJF) Session Planning

This session took place in early July with three lifelong friends, and R, V & G. R was getting married later that month, and the three of them wanted to celebrate with a smaller, intimate gathering in the lavender fields of Valensole. They were visiting from Italy and had just a couple of days in the region, so this picnic and photo session was a perfect, compact way to mark the occasion.

We chose the sunset field for this shoot. It is quieter than some of the main fields, and it has direct sunset lighting, which makes the colours in the lavender and sky really pop. The gentle evening light added warmth and depth to every frame, perfect for both candid and posed moments.

Our Picnic Experience

As with all our picnic sessions, the main focus is enjoying the picnic itself. These sessions usually start with about an hour of relaxed dining, tasting local Provençal treats, and enjoying the surroundings. This is an example of what a picnic looks like:

R, V & G brought matching outfits and thoughtful preparations, making the picnic both celebratory and photogenic.

During the picnic, the three friends laughed, chatted, and toasted to R’s upcoming wedding. It was full of joyful, authentic moments that set a relaxed, happy tone for the rest of the session.

Sunset Lighting Photo Session

After the picnic, we moved into the photo portion of the session, which lasted about 30 minutes. We captured a mix of candid and posed shots of the trio, with R as the main focus. We also got photos of just G and V celebrating their friendship with her. The lavender fields, combined with the golden hour lighting, created a dreamy, soft backdrop.

We moved around the sunset field to use different angles and compositions, showcasing the depth of the lavender and the subtle curves of the terrain. We also took some solo portraits as well. The friends were comfortable and natural in front of the camera, which made the images lively and full of personality.
