A Girls Trip to the Lavender Fields of Provence, South of France¶
L and D were visiting from China and booked a longer session with us from 19:15 to 20:45. With an hour and a half, we had the flexibility to explore multiple fields and capture a full progression of evening light, from post-rain skies to sunset and into dusk.
A Post-Rain Rainbow Over the Lavender Field¶
We began in our first field, and the timing could not have been more perfect. It had just finished raining before the session, and as we arrived, the clouds began to part. Behind the lavender, a full rainbow appeared across the sky.
It looked unreal, almost as though it had been added in afterwards. The colours were strong and clear, arching directly behind the field. We have rarely seen a rainbow that vivid over the lavender. In the photographs, it created a magical backdrop that felt almost surreal.
After capturing the rainbow moments, we continued shooting in the same field with Valensole visible in the background. The combination of fresh post-rain air, soft light and the distant village made the setting feel especially beautiful and calm.
Golden Light in the Dip Field¶
For the second part of the session, we moved to the Dip Field. By then, it was approaching sunset. The light had softened and warmed, creating a gentle golden glow across the rows of lavender. The natural slope of the Dip Field added depth and drama to the images, especially with the low evening sun.
L and D both wore beautiful white dresses, which stood out perfectly against the purple tones of the field. White works exceptionally well in lavender because it keeps the look clean, timeless and bright.
Deep Purple Tones at Dusk¶
After the sun dipped below the horizon, the field shifted once again. The sky and lavender took on deeper, cooler purple tones. This dusk light brings out a richer colour in the flowers and creates a completely different mood compared to golden hour.
We made the most of those final minutes, capturing images that felt softer and more atmospheric. Ending the session at 20:45 allowed us to experience three distinct lighting conditions in one evening, from rainbow skies to sunset glow and finally that deep, dusky purple.
It was one of those rare sessions where everything aligned perfectly, from the weather to the light to the styling, resulting in a truly unforgettable set of images.
