Early Sunrise Couple Session in the Lavender Fields, Provence¶
Early Meeting Time¶
In early July, we met J and S from 6:00 to 7:00 in the morning to capture the sunrise in the lavender fields near Valensole. Sunrise at that time of year is just before 6:00, so we began while the sky was still in its early dawn phase.
Before the sun appeared, the lavender looked especially deep and rich in colour. In those first minutes of light, the purple tones feel more intense and saturated, and the atmosphere is calm and almost still. We took advantage of that soft dawn glow to capture a few images before the sun rose fully above the horizon.
Golden Light for Sunrise¶
As the sun began to rise, the entire field shifted in tone. The light moved from cool and purple to warm and golden within minutes. The sun backlit J and S beautifully, creating a soft glow around them and adding depth to the rows of lavender behind.
The early morning light at sunrise is very clean and directional. It creates long, gentle shadows and highlights texture in a way that feels fresh and natural. The result was a set of images that felt bright, peaceful and full of summer warmth.
Solo Portraits¶
Our Two Favourite Fields in One Hour¶
We started in one of our favourite sunrise fields, chosen specifically because it faces the right direction to capture the first light. The open view allows the sun to rise cleanly behind the couple, which makes for striking backlit portraits.
Afterwards, we moved to the Dip Field. This gave us a completely different perspective within the same session. The dramatic slope of the Dip Field adds depth and movement, and it contrasts nicely with the flatter sunrise location.
J and S were simply travelling through the region and wanted beautiful photos together. It was a relaxed and casual session, just the two of them enjoying the moment. They both wore white, which works perfectly in lavender fields. The white outfits stood out against the purple tones and kept the images looking fresh and timeless.
