Romantic Honeymoon Photo Session and Picnic in the Lavender Fields, Provence¶
Date and Timing¶
E and J joined us in late June from 20:00 to 21:30 as part of their honeymoon in Provence. Having just been married, they wanted to celebrate this special chapter with our picnic and photo session experience in the lavender fields of Valensole.
The Picnic Experience Comes First¶
As with all picnic and photo sessions, the experience is primarily centred around the picnic itself. The majority of the hour and a half is spent enjoying the setting, the food, and the atmosphere before we begin the shorter photo session at the end. If someone’s main goal is a longer photo shoot, we usually recommend booking a dedicated photography session instead.
For E and J, the picnic was the perfect way to slow down and savour their honeymoon. We prepared a selection of local Provençal ingredients inspired by regional markets and farmers’ produce. There were lavender-inspired flavours woven into the experience, paired with wines and refreshing drinks. The focus is on quality, locality, and creating a relaxed moment together in the fields.

Location: Our Sunset Field Near Valensole¶
We chose one of our favourite sunset fields located between Lavandes Angelvin and Valensole. It is close to the village yet much quieter than some of the main, more crowded areas. This makes it ideal for intimate moments, especially during sunset.
The field faces directly towards the setting sun, which means the light pours in unobstructed from behind the lavender rows. The golden glow at this time of day is truly beautiful and very flattering for portraits.
Another reason we love this location for picnic sessions is that it offers access to a second field nearby. Since the photo portion of the experience is shorter, it is important to create as much variety as possible in a limited time. Having two distinct backdrops close together allows us to achieve that without rushing.
The Sunset Photo Session¶
After spending about an hour enjoying the picnic, we began the photo session right at sunset. The timing could not have been more perfect. The sky lit up with vivid pinks and glowing golds, the kind of colours Valensole is known for. The lavender reflected the changing tones beautifully.
E and J were clearly still in that newlywed glow. Their connection was natural and effortless, which made capturing candid and romantic portraits easy. We focused mainly on couples photos, highlighting their closeness and the joy of their honeymoon.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the lighting shifted dramatically. The bright orange tones softened into deeper purples and dusky hues. This second phase of light creates a completely different mood, more intimate and serene.
Moving to the Second Field at Dusk¶
Once we had fully captured the golden hour in the first field, we crossed over to the second field. This one has lavender that gently curls and offers more of a countryside horizon view, with rolling fields in the background. It feels expansive and open, quite different from the first location.
Here, we embraced the deep dusk tones. The lavender appeared richer and more saturated in purple, creating a romantic, almost cinematic atmosphere. These final images beautifully closed out their honeymoon session.
A Perfect Honeymoon Memory¶
From the relaxed Provençal picnic to the glowing sunset portraits and finally the soft purple dusk, this session gave E and J a complete experience. It was not only about the photographs, but about slowing down, celebrating their marriage, and enjoying the lavender fields of Valensole together.
