Sunrise and Lavender, A Magical Morning Photo Tour in the Lavender Fields¶
Photography Session Panning and Timing¶
This session took place in early July and was a photo-tour lasting three and a half hours. K and J wanted a night sky, sunrise and morning shoot all-together. The session began at 05:00, allowing us to photograph the fields in a quiet, peaceful setting with the soft, early light. Night Sky sessions are ideal for couples or anyone who can stay still, as we often use longer shutter speeds to capture the delicate colours and texture of the lavender. We will meet before the sun rises and shoot under the early dawn sky.
First Field: Pre-Dawn Lavender¶
We started in a field close to Valensole, which is perfect for sunrise sessions because of its calm, private location. The early light created an almost ethereal atmosphere, bringing out deep, rich purples in the lavender. During this part of the session, we focused on couples portraits of K and J. The lighting at this hour changes quickly, starting with soft pinks as the sun begins to rise and gradually transitioning to golden tones. This allows for a variety of looks within the same field.
Solo Portraits and Outfit Change¶
As the sun continued to rise, we captured solo shots of K in her stunning white dress. The flowing fabric complemented the lavender perfectly, and her outfit choice really elevated the images.
The rising sun changed the colours of the lavender to a beautiful golden pink. We continued with couples photos here.
Afterwards,, K changed into a bright yellow dress, which added a playful contrast to the purple flowers. J also changed into a coordinating blue shirt to match the new colour palette. This portion of the session included more couples portraits and some solo shots of K, capturing movement, candid moments, and posed imagery in the soft, morning light.
After the sun had fully risen, we continued to the next stops of the tour.
Sage Field Photos¶
On the way to the next lavender field, we stopped briefly at a pink sage field. Although the sage does have a strong scent, the colour and texture made for a beautiful backdrop. Here, K wore her yellow dress and hat, and we took a mix of solo and couples photos. The colour combination of the yellow dress against the purple lavender and pink sage created vibrant, eye-catching images.
Second Lavender Field: Puimoisson Hut¶
The final field was in Puimoisson and featured a charming stone hut in the background. By this point, it was around 07:30, and the sun had risen higher, creating brighter light but still soft enough for beautiful portraits. K changed into a purple dress for this segment, which harmonised beautifully with the lavender. We began with solo shots of K, capturing her elegance against the field, including some with the mountains and the hut in the background. The combination of the unique hut, the lavender, and the morning light created a truly romantic and memorable finale to the session.
We finished with couples portraits of K and J.
Photo Tour Tips¶
This session demonstrates how sunrise shoots provide a variety of lighting, colours, and moods in just a few hours. Planning outfit changes and visiting multiple fields allows for maximum variety. For anyone considering a sunrise session, this is ideal for couples who want romantic, ethereal, and dynamic photos in the peaceful quiet of Provence’s lavender fields.
