Surprise Proposal during Couple Photo Session in the Lavender Fields, Provence¶
This shoot took place in mid-July in a field we call the “Dip Field”. It is a quieter, more dramatic field about ten minutes from our home base. The dramatic dip in the terrain and the expansive lavender make it perfect for capturing intimate moments.
Photography Session Planning¶
A reached out months in advance to book a couples session with K. She wanted a simple shoot in the lavender fields. Little did she know that K was planning to propose during this trip. He contacted us a few days later to organise the proposal photography. We worked closely with him to plan the timing, the flow of the session, and how we could discreetly capture the moment without giving anything away.
We also discussed the field, the lighting, and how to make the proposal look natural while still having every important reaction documented. Planning was essential because proposals can be emotional and fast, and we wanted to make sure we captured all the details perfectly.
The "Fake" Photo Session¶
The session began like any other couple shoot. We started with solo photos of A. We gave her a lavender bouquet and a cute hat as props. She had no idea what was about to happen, which made the anticipation really special. Both of us took turns capturing different angles while keeping the session natural and relaxed.
As we moved through the session, we took casual couple shots of A and K. K played it perfectly, keeping A engaged and unaware of what was coming.
The Surprise Proposal Moment¶
We waited for the perfect moment when the clouds parted and the lighting was just right. Then K dropped to one knee and proposed. A had no idea. The moment was completely genuine, full of surprise and emotion.
Immediately after the proposal, we captured all the natural reactions. Hugs, kisses, laughter, tears, and detailed shots of the ring were photographed. Both of us worked together to make sure every angle, expression, and detail was recorded. We guided them subtly when needed, but mostly let the moment unfold naturally so the photos would feel authentic.
Capturing Every Detail and Emotion¶
Because this was such a special moment, we made sure to photograph more than just the proposal itself. We captured candid shots, the joy between the couple, and the way A held her bouquet. We photographed the lavender surrounding them and how the sunlight glowed through the field, making the colors pop. Every frame told a part of the story.
This shoot was particularly special for us because it led to a lasting friendship with A and K. Two years later, in February 2025, we attended their wedding in India. One of the photos we had taken during the proposal was featured on their wedding newsletter. It was shared with all their guests the day before the wedding while they stayed at the resort.
Being part of their story from proposal to wedding reminded us why we do what we do. We love capturing real, joyful moments and being trusted with memories that will last a lifetime. This proposal was a beautiful example of how meaningful photography can be when it is personal, thoughtful, and captured with care.
We will always remember this proposal as one of our most special shoots. It was full of genuine emotion, love, and joy. Being part of such a significant milestone in A and K’s story was an honour and a privilege, and it is the reason we love what we do.
