Lavender Fields Family Photography: A Golden Hour Session

Starting at the 'Dip Field' near Valensole

In early July, D, her husband N, and their two children, J and R, joined us for a family session from 20:20 to 21:20 near Valensole. We began at the “Dip Field”, just a few minutes from Valensole. The session almost didn’t happen because it was pouring right before we were set to start. In Provence, the weather can be unpredictable, but we always offer to go forward with sessions in rain or shine, unless our clients prefer to re-schedule. Luckily, just as we began, the clouds parted and revealed an incredible sunset. The light was warm and orange, with dramatic cloud textures, giving the lavender an almost magical glow.

We started with the whole family together and then moved into smaller combinations: D with N, D with both children, and some fun candid moments with all four of them. The changing light added depth and variety to each shot, making the early challenge well worth it.

Second Location: Sunset Field

After about twenty minutes, we moved to the “Sunset Field”, which faces directly into the horizon for a full view of the setting sun. We repeated the same pattern: starting with family portraits and then creating smaller groupings and couple shots. D with her children, D and N together, and candid moments of everyone enjoying the field.

The sunset lighting was incredible, soft and warm, casting a beautiful glow over the lavender. By the end of the hour, we had a rich variety of images: full family portraits, intimate moments between parents and children, and playful interactions. It was a fun, dynamic session with perfect light and a very happy family.
