When is the best time to visit the lavender fields in Valensole?
Peak bloom is typically around the third week of June through mid-July. Farmers usually begin harvesting in mid-July, though this varies by year and altitude. Due to increasingly common heat waves, seasons have been shortening unfortunately.
We monitor the fields closely each season and can give you realistic updates as your dates approach. If you're flexible on timing, we'll always point you toward the best possible window.
What if I'm visiting in late July or August? Is it too late?
Not necessarily. If you're arriving in late July, the Luberon area between Apt and Lourmarin, or around Gordes near Sénanque Abbey, tends to be harvested later. For visits in August, head to higher-altitude areas like Sault, Banon, or the Drôme. The higher the field, the later the bloom.
What if the lavender isn't fully in bloom yet, or has already been harvested?
This is the trickiest part of planning a lavender session, and we're always honest about it. The bloom window is short and unpredictable, and farmers harvest on their own schedule, sometimes earlier than expected.
We monitor the plateau daily during the season and keep our clients updated as conditions change. If your dates fall outside the peak window, we'll tell you honestly and help you decide whether to adjust timing, explore a different field, or consider whether partial bloom still gives you the images you're hoping for. Some years, even a week's difference can change everything.
Are there other flower fields near Valensole too?
Yes! The area around Valensole is also well known for sunflower fields, which bloom around the same time as the lavender. The combination makes for spectacular photography. There are sage fields and olive trees too!
