Valensole Photoshoot Stories

Every year from mid-June to mid-July, the Valensole plateau turns violet and we move our summers to Provence. We've photographed the lavender bloom here every season for years — sunrise sessions before the heat and the bees, and sunset sessions when the rows glow purple and gold.

July Sunrise Proposal in the Lavender Fields of Valensole

D reached out to plan a surprise proposal for A, and after discussing several ideas, they chose 14 July 2025. That summer was particularly difficult in the Valensole region due to intense heat waves, drought, and rising temperatures. By mid-July, most of the lavender fields had already been harvested.

Intimate Sunset Proposal in the Sunflowers Field in Provence

In mid-July, K planned a special two-hour session to propose to J. They usually do a lot of shoots together, so it was easy to make this one seem like a normal couple session. We started at a field about ten minutes from Puimoisson to take a few photos and keep things casual. This gave J the impression it was a typical shoot and kept the surprise intact.

C reached out to organise a proposal for R in mid-July. Originally, the plan was to shoot in Valensole from 18:00 to 19:00, but due to an unusually hot summer, heat waves, and drought, the lavender fields there were nearly all harvested. We quickly adapted and found a beautiful field just outside Saignon in the Luberon region.

In early July, G and her daughter E joined us for a sunset session from 20:10 to 21:10 near Valensole. This timing was perfect for capturing the warm, soft light of the evening. The lighting was soft and flattering, ideal for capturing candid moments of mother and daughter enjoying the fields.

Capturing a Summer Sunset Proposal in the Valensole Lavender Fields

In early July, J and K joined us for a sunset session from 20:30 to 21:30. K thought it was just a regular photo session, so to keep the surprise, we started at the Dip Field. The lighting from the setting sun gave a beautiful glow across the lavender, and the dramatic slope of the field made it look like it stretched on forever.

In early July, S and her family joined us for a 90-minute session from 19:50 to 21:20. They were visiting Provence with their family of 10, including two children, and wanted to capture family memories together. We began in the sunflowers at Terraroma, a favourite spot because it combines vibrant sunflowers with a lavender field on the side.

In early July, H and her partner, N, joined us for a sunrise session from 6:00 to 7:30. They chose a longer session so we could move between multiple fields and fully enjoy the early morning light.

G reached out months in advance because he wanted to plan a proposal for C in the lavender fields. He knew he wanted to include a picnic, and he also had a bigger surprise planned. After the proposal, they would be staying at a villa where all of their close friends from New York were set to arrive and celebrate with them the next day. Here is the story from that celebration. In early July, L and A booked a sunrise maternity session from 6:00 to 7:00. We started at what we call the “Sunrise Field”. This couple was wonderful to work with. They were easy-going, fun, and happy to just enjoy the morning together.

In early July, D, her husband N, and their two children, J and R, joined us for a family session from 20:20 to 21:20 near Valensole. In late June, A reached out to book a night sky and sunrise session with her partner. These sessions are usually an hour and a half long, starting early in the morning around 5:30 and finishing around 7:00. This timing allows us to capture images in complete darkness with lanterns or fairy lights, then transition naturally into sunrise shots as the light changes.

H reached out while he and his wife E were travelling through Valensole on a road trip. They are originally from Austria and were exploring the region in their RV in late June, making their way through Provence at their own pace. During their stop in Valensole, they wanted to capture a few memories together in the lavender fields.

M had carefully prepared the surprise. D had always imagined a proposal in the lavender fields, so he playfully convinced her it would not happen there, making the real moment completely unexpected. When he finally proposed, her reaction was pure shock and joy, creating one of those genuine, emotional moments that feels timeless in photographs.

In late June, K and K joined us for a sunrise session from 5:45 to 6:45. They wanted to focus on just one field to make the most of the morning light and capture as many photos as possible in a single location.

J reached out to plan a proposal for V in Valensole. Since they had done several photo sessions together before, it was easy for him to suggest another shoot without raising suspicion. This approach works especially well for couples who are already comfortable in front of the camera, as it keeps the proposal feeling natural and unexpected.

We captured a family session in the lavender fields of Valensole, Provence, for a family of four with two adorable little girls in early July. For family shoots, one of the biggest factors that elevates the photos is colour coordination and outfits. When everyone wears complementary or matching clothing, it creates a cohesive, polished look that really pops in the photos.

On 7 July 2024, S planned a picnic proposal for T in the lavender fields near Valensole. The session was carefully timed around sunset so that the proposal would take place in the softest and most romantic light of the day.

A Golden Hour Surprise Proposal in a Lavender Field near Valensole

In early July, T carefully planned a sunset proposal for E in the lavender fields near Valensole. He chose what we call the “Dip Field”, a beautiful spot about ten minutes from the village. The field is known for its dramatic slope, which makes the lavender appear to stretch on endlessly from certain angles and creates a naturally cinematic backdrop.

In early July, we met J and S from 6:00 to 7:00 in the morning to capture the sunrise in the lavender fields near Valensole. Sunrise at that time of year is just before 6:00, so we began while the sky was still in its early dawn phase.

R planned a special proposal for M during a photo session they were already doing together. They have done many shoots before, so M did not suspect anything unusual, which made the surprise even more effective. This approach works best for couples who are comfortable in front of the camera and accustomed to taking photos together.

The last week of June through the first week of July is when the lavender is at its fullest bloom, creating soft colour, endless texture, and the perfect setting for romantic summer photographs. We met in the early evening for a short and simple session. Because the shoot lasted only thirty minutes, the light remained consistent the entire time.

In early July, we met H and B for an early morning session from 8:00 to 9:00. Morning shoots have a completely different atmosphere compared to sunset sessions. The light is softer, the air feels fresher, and the fields are much quieter.

L and D were visiting from China and booked a longer session with us from 19:15 to 20:45. With an hour and a half, we had the flexibility to explore multiple fields and capture a full progression of evening light, from post-rain skies to sunset and into dusk.

There are few places as breathtaking as Valensole in mid-July, when endless rows of lavender stretch across the horizon, their fragrance hanging thick in the warm summer air. As the sun began its descent, we had the privilege of capturing a love story unfold in one of the most romantic settings imaginable.

This session took place in mid-July in the Valensole region. A and S were visiting from India and had only one day in the area, so we scheduled a two-hour session from 18:00 to 20:00. The timing allowed us to capture the soft evening light as the sun approached the horizon.

These early morning sessions are designed to capture the lavender fields under night sky conditions and during the sunrise. We began before sunrise so that we could photograph A and A with the soft ambient light of the early morning. To enhance the effect, we used small lanterns or fairy lights for a magical glow in the pictures.

This session took place in early July with three lifelong friends, and R, V & G. They were visiting from Italy and had just a couple of days in the region, so this picnic and photo session was a perfect, compact way to mark the occasion.

This session took place in early July and was a photo-tour lasting three and a half hours. K and J wanted a night sky, sunrise and morning shoot all-together. TNight Sky sessions are ideal for couples or anyone who can stay still, as we often use longer shutter speeds to capture the delicate colours and texture of the lavender.

At this point, the lavender is fully vibrant, the light is soft and golden, and the fields feel expansive and romantic.

For picnic sessions, mornings or evenings work best, as the light is soft and comfortable, and you are not sitting directly in the sun. The last week of June is perfect for these sessions, as the lavender is at its peak and the lighting is soft and romantic.

This simple couples session took place in mid-June, from 09:00 to 10:00. Being mid-June, the lavender was still in the early stages of growth, less purple and bushy than at the peak of the season, but still looked lovely for the shoot. L and I’s schedule only allowed this time since they were making a day trip to the region from Nice, and we always make sessions work regardless of exact timing or lavender maturity.

In early July, we had a beautiful shoot with N and P in Lavandes Angelvin, just a few minutes from Valensole, Provence. This was a sunset shoot, so the golden light made the lavender glow beautifully and gave the photos a soft, warm atmosphere.
